The Smilodon, also known as the saber-toothed tiger,  roamed the Americas during the Pleistocene epoch until going extinct around 10,000 years ago. Its most defining feature was a pair of elongated, blade-like canine teeth that could reach up to 28 cm in length. To utilize these massive weapons, the Smilodon could open its jaws at a staggering 120-degree angle.
